What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a specific form of therapy which has been shown as an effective way to help people recover from past traumas. Through the use of eye movement, sound, tapping, light or other forms of bilateral stimulation, the brain can start to return to the natural healing process, which was previously interrupted, in order for the brain to process and provide relief.
There is no specific timeframe for the use of EMDR treatment. This can often be a great supportive therapy later on in treatment after there is an increase in tolerance to process past memories.
Below is a video from the formal association of EMDR, which offers a more in depth introduction to this type of therapy.
